Gun control in America is a very heavily disputed topic, but it feels like it is especially prevalent in Texas. Maybe it is because of the high concentration of conservatives that live in the Texas area, 26% of Texas republicans say they want less strict gun control and 58% of them want gun control regulations to stay the way they are. This is a staggering amount of people as compared to the 80% of Texas democrats that say they want stricter rules on gun control. (http://texaspolitics.utexas.edu/archive/html/poll/features/gun_control_feature/slide1.html). Personal I believe that if Texas, and America, doesn't make a change when it comes to gun control, that our problems  about gun will only get worse and conflicts will only escalate. There have been "23 incidents where there were deaths of injuries" during a school shooting in 2018 alone! (BBC News) This is an insanely high number that could have been lower if there were stricter rules about how was allowed a gun. This isn't to say that all shootings would be avoided, but it would greatly diminish this tragic number.

  1. I definitely agree with your argument, I feel that us as a nation could've avoided many of these tragedies that broke apart families and took away many loved ones. Gun control is an ongoing issue that doesn't quite make sense if 23 incidents have occurred in 2018 alone that involves the mass killing of innocent civilians, this should be an eye opener to our Government. Unfortunately, we have organizations such as the NRA that control many of the aspects of the laws on gun reform through their power of lobbying our government. The NRA has been operating since 1975 specifically for what they want gun reform to look like in the United States. I feel like not much can be done until a just as strong organization can move against the horrific ideology of the NRA.

  2. I agree with Carson on his views of gun control in Texas and the US in general. I feel that without stricter gun control laws, gun violence, school shootings especially, will only continue in the US. Yes, people can still legally be allowed to have their guns, but that doesn’t mean that everybody should have them, especially people with mental illnesses or people who want to go out of their way to do ill to others maliciously. Gun control can seem like something that is meant to de-arm US citizens, but I see it as a way to protect US citizens and help us feel safe, though as we have seen, those who legally carry firearms (cops), don’t always make us feel safe, but rather the opposite, but that is a conversation for another day.
